Welcome to your latest Canadian immigration news roundup from Mesidor Immigration. This month brought significant developments across key immigration streams that are essential for anyone planning to come to, remain in, or bring a loved one to Canada.
At Mesidor Immigration, we are committed to providing timely and accurate information to help you navigate the complexities of the Canadian immigration system. This post breaks down four major updates: a pivotal Express Entry draw for French-speakers, a significant increase to settlement funds for community-based pilot programs, record-setting job growth in Saskatchewan, and a massive wave of invitations through the International Experience Canada program.
Francophone Draw: Express Entry Invites 2,500
After a nearly five-month pause, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held a category-based Express Entry draw on August 8, 2025, specifically targeting candidates with strong French-language skills. In this round, 2,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence were issued.
The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required was 481, a notable increase of 102 points from the previous Francophone-specific draw. This higher score highlights the competitive nature of these targeted invitations. So far in 2025, 21,000 of the total 53,128 ITAs have been issued to Francophone candidates, underscoring Canada’s ongoing commitment to its Francophone immigration goals. For a detailed history of all draws, you can consult the official IRCC Express Entry rounds of invitations page.
Fund Hikes: New Settlement Fund Requirements for RCIP & FCIP
A critical financial update affects those considering the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) or the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP). Effective July 29, 2025, IRCC increased the minimum settlement funds required by nearly 32%. A single applicant must now show proof of $10,507, up from the previous $7,963.
These employer-driven pilots are designed to fill specific labour shortages but require applicants to prove they can support themselves financially upon arrival. It is vital for prospective applicants to review their savings and ensure they meet these new thresholds. You can find more details on the Proof of Funds guidance on the Government of Canada's website. We also cover program updates regularly in our Canadian Immigration News blog.
Sask. Jobs: Record-Breaking Growth Creates Immigration Pathways
Saskatchewan is currently a national leader in economic growth, creating outstanding opportunities for newcomers. According to the latest Statistics Canada data, the province added an impressive 22,200 full-time jobs in the year leading up to July 2025. Its provincial unemployment rate of 5.0% is the lowest in Canada, significantly below the national average.
This growth has fueled high demand in key sectors like healthcare, construction, and finance, making Saskatchewan an attractive destination for skilled workers. This economic strength creates clear immigration pathways through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). If your skills are in demand, now is an excellent time to explore opportunities in the province.
IEC Updates: Over 10,000 Youth Invited to Work in Canada
The International Experience Canada (IEC) program continues to be a popular pathway for global youth. Between early July and August 10, 2025, IRCC invited 10,357 candidates to apply for an open work permit through categories like the Working Holiday, Young Professionals, and International Co-op.
Invitations were sent to young people from dozens of partner countries, including Australia, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. With nearly 90,000 invitations issued under the IEC program so far in 2025, it remains a vital and accessible option for those seeking temporary Canadian work experience.
